A Great Compilation of WolfeTones Hits LiveMay 12, 2006
By Donegal Dan If you are a fan of Irish music, you undoubtedly know the WolfeTones, one of the most popular Irish groups ever and possibly the only one whose great popularity has served so consistently as a means of educating audiences about Ireland and Irish history at the same time as entertaining them. The Tones do not shy away from the past events that have shaken Ireland and brought it to its present enviable state--the Famine, Cromwell, the Easter rebellion, the War of Independence, the awful Civil War--they sing about them all, in rousing hymns and marches, humorous salutes and poignant ballads. This DVD is a great collection and a celebration of 40 years of superb entertainment. It pretty much covers the waterfront, from the nostalgic yet stirring "Boys of the Old Brigade" to the ode to teenage martyr Kevin Barry to the Irish diaspora and "The Streets of New York". And then there is "The Helicopter Song" about the daring escape of 3 Irish prisoners from under the noses of their British warden--very funny and the biggest popular song of all time in Ireland. This is a wonderful DVD and a fitting tribute to the group which has kept a good part of Irish history which many still find too painful to talk about (esp. the Civil War)from being lost to new generations. Long may they sing!

A must-have for any fan of Irish musicJul 17, 2008
By C. Quinn This was a gift for my mother who has been a fan of the Wolfe Tones since the very beginning. I've seen them live more than once, and this DVD does an excellent job of capturing the energy and feel of a live show. They sing all the old classics, and if their voices have dimmed a little over the years, their passion for their music (and the cause) has not. This wonderful DVD could serve as a soundtrack for the Troubles; the Wolfe Tones certainly worked hard to publicize and popularize their political views over the last 40 years. Now that the Troubles are thankfully over, they seem to have mellowed a bit, but their love of Ireland still shines through every performance.

THE WOLFETONESAug 05, 2011
By pink gin This was probably the worst example of Irish music we have watched,,,merely an anti-British political statement by a bunch of drunkards,,,We only watched about two thirds of it until we gave up in disgust,,,
