thunders,kane,& nolan's last great standFeb 24, 2006

"a fistful of guitar"
if you dig the n.y. dolls, heartbreakers,& johnny thunders...get this dvd.it is a great show.nothing fancy,no multiple camera shots,or numerous bonus material.you get these former dolls on stage in a club, kicking major ass! especially thunders.i can't remember seeing him so in control & animated.unlike most of his recorded shows,he does not appear under the influence of hard drugs.no nodding out,no slurred or forgotten words.he is totaly
on top of his game,& i've never seen him play better guitar.nolan is,as always the rock & roll drummer.great as always.& having arthur kane on board is icing on the cake.i've been in to these guys for longer than i'd like to admit, still have original vinyl,& i've seen them live a few times.this dvd is a fantastic epitaph to 3 rock & roll legends.

Sounds greatAug 24, 2006

The sound is better than on a lot of Thunders albums. This is a great performance from all 3, Thunders is notable for a lucid and very affecting performance. Yes, the visual production is primitive, you can hardly see Jerry and Arthur, but, on the basis of the quality of the performance alone, as well as its uniqueness, I decided halfway through it was a keeper (having rented it first) and I scarcely buy DVDs. I have read it was a bootleg that the estates of Thunders and Kane authorized release of.

DO NOT buy "Dead Or Alive" instead of this!!Dec 06, 2005

What ChasDaDragon forgot to mention was that "Dead Or Alive" is OVERDUBBED! Johnny went back to the studio and re-recorded music for DOA, which was a completely unnecessary and stupid idea!! You'll see JT walk away from the mic and he'll still be singing, for cryin' out loud!
There are some small parts of DOA where the original music is left intact, but the VAST MAJORITY of JT's vocals and guitar are studio overdubs. It's a shame because it completely ruins the DVD. Maybe when a bootleg audio recording of the actual DOA show makes it out there someone will do a little editing.
Anyways, "You Cant Put Your Arms Around A Memory" is a great DVD. Johnny was in excellent form, as was Nolan. We barely see Kane, but put the subwoofer on in 5.1 mode and he sounds great.
As for Barry Jones, former member of The London Cowboys, he does an admirable job. He is completely in the zone during "Cant Keep My Eyes On You." And how can anyone be criticized for not being able to harmonize with JT? JT can't even harmonize with his own guitar most of the time!
This is a great DVD for you to see JT in action. It didnt get much better than this, especially after 1987. Yeah, there is only 1 camera angle, but he is in camera-shot the whole time, giving us plenty of moments to cheer at.
The best CD release of this show is "In The Flesh," which edits out between song filler.

worth getting......but.Apr 13, 2006
By j0e_x i do like this. johnny keeps his mouth shut and plays his guitar---really well in fact. guess jerry had a 'talk' with him.
ths sound is great too, and though the visuals are not as good as the 'DOA' dvd, at least the sound isn't dubbed (wtf?)!!!
but still---something is missing--johnny is a shadow of his former self. anyone who wants to witness the power and glory of the HEARTBREAKERS at their wild, energetic peak---when they ruled nyc ( really ) should search out one of the Max's Kansas City bootlegs--you know where to find them.
ps---too bad the crowd shots are mostly clueless fratboys on the side--when the cam cuts to the main crowd they are very animated.
especially that guy that looks like Pablo Escobar! maybe it was him ha ha!

The best!!!!!!Nov 09, 2005

The best Johnny Thunders video out there! Hes in top form here! The great sound quality makes up for the lack of video quality ( a bit fuzzy and its from one camera). I own the other two dvds (Cold Blood and Dead Or Alive) and this kills both of them. Hes hittin' all the right notes (and words) and just boppin' all over the stage! Great performance!
