 A Must Have for the SRV FanAug 30, 2010
This excellent video is done in two parts. The first three songs are from the 1983 performance on Austin City Limits and they are excellent. Stevie Ray rocks all out on "Pride and Joy", "Texas Flood", and the Jimi Hendrix cover of "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" (only SRV could do the latter song justice).
The songs from the 1989 show are, "The House Is Rockin", "Tightrope", "Leave My Little Girl Alone", "Cold Shot", "Crossfire", and "Riviera Paradise". "Leave My Little Girl Alone" is the blues at its very best. Stevie Ray plays the guitar with such passion. "Riviera Paradise" is a great jazz flavored instrumental. I think it's awesome. The keyboard part reminds me of something that Lyle Mays with the Pat Metheny Group would play. Really nice.
Also included at the end of the video disc is a montage video of 'Little Wing', this is the Jimi Hendrix song that SRV covered which was previously unreleased. The video is awesome as it shows rare footage with SRV and several blues greats including BB King, T-Bone Walker, Albert Collins, Hendrix, Big Bill Broonzy, Leadbelly, Eric Clapton,and more.
All in all, this is an excellent collection of SRV songs. A must have for the SRV fan.
This Contains Stevie Ray's Only 2 Appearances on the Austin City Limits Show = A1+!!!!Aug 07, 2010
Stevie Ray's first appearance was in 1983, along with Tommy Shannon on bass guitar, and Chris Layton on the drums (Double Trouble). There are 3 songs from that show, on this dvd: Pride & Joy, Texas Flood, and Voodoo Chile. Stevie Ray's 2nd appearance was in 1989. This time he had added Reese Wymans on keyboards, to the band Double Trouble (containing Tommy & Chris).
I like both appearances, but I like the 1989 appearance the best. The songs include:
1.The House is a Rockin' (This is written in large letters, on top of the front doors, at the Hard Rock Cafe in Houston, also they have a big replica of one of his guitars, mounted and revolving on top of the Hard Rock Cafe Houston.)
2.Tightrope
3.Leave my Girl Alone
4.Cold Shot
5.Crossfire
6.Riviera Paradise
7.Tick Tock
8.Litte Wing (bonus video, showing legendary blues guitarist, and the manufacturing of guitars).

This is a MUST HAVE for any Stevie Ray fan or guitar enthusiast. His playing just captures your attention, you can't stop watching. Every track is just mind blowing, I have never seen anyone that plays that smooth or anyone that runs up and down the fretboard with that much feeling & soul.
When Stevie plays you feel it so buy this dvd and you'll see for yourself.

If you are a big SRV fan you'll be happy to have this. Is it top quality? Does it include as many songs/performances as I'd like? No and No. However, I am thrilled to have this. Even before he got clean, SRV just knew how to perform each and every time because the music came from deep within him. I am so glad he sobered up and was able to help others. He is an inspiration as a musician and a insightful human being. Glad he lives on despite leaving us in physical form.
