"BAT"
So here we have "Slave" Live from Chicago, now let me fill you in, this concert was taken from an african festival celebration some years ago and "Slave" were one of the many bands playing at this show. I think i was expecting way to much here, there is one original band member here "Drac" who plays an awesome guitar solo on "Slide" but thats about it really! Again it seems all these talented artists from an era where Funk was soooo popular have just let themselves go, they are always so fat!! This of course isnt an issue but you'd really hope that these guys would look after themseleves or at least stay fit! Anyway................The lead singer isnt all that bad, hes quite good in fact, but he is no Steve Arrington lets just say that, the live music itself sounds very flat and really lacks depth and power, Slave were a very powerful bass playing band with excellent horn sections and attractive vocals but here it all lacks anything worth shouting about. Tho you can see a hand full of people kinda dancing i know myself had this been the original band playing to their best every human in audiance would have been gettin down like a mutha!
I absolutely love Slave but this concert really does this Funk band no justice at all!!!!!!

Not what I expected...Oct 05, 2010
By Blaise SCHMITTER A big SLAVE fan since the 70's I was disappointed by this concert. First of all, 'Drac' Hicks is the only remaining 'original' member remaining but he still could have pulled it off because he 's so talented. But, SLAVE's sound also had some nasty bass to make you groove and whoever is handling it is not up to par with Mark Adams and (or)very under-mixed... Vintage concerts from the golden era of those bands DO exist (got a Don Kirshner's show by SLAVE and what a difference). Why not putting them out? Or at least try to match the sound that made them famous in the first place.
Surprisingly goodSep 05, 2009
By Stan Da Man I was thoroughly pleased with the audio being taped at an outdoor concert. This is a really good band, although only one original Slave member. The lead vocalist does an outstanding cover of Steve Arrington !

While it was a great idea and the songs were pretty tight, the raw energy was missing. Without the original members except for Mark Hicks I was disappionted with that fact. Otherwise,it was a solid outing.A reunion with original members of course is the only way to go. This is the biggest problem with videos, they only show the bands after their prime. If there is video from the early days whether it is incomplete or not, real fans want them at their prime. I can't believe that there is not any available. This goes for all R&B, Funk Music But, until that happens, I am still a big fan of Slave. DJ Warlock
