5This is the version of the concert to get!Dec 07, 2006
By H. M Rivera
First off, it is a great concert and if you like Poco, the Eagles, CSNY, America, etc. you are going to like this.

There are two versions of this concert on DVD, but this is the one to get.

Why? Superior sound! The single DVD version ("Keeping the Legend Alive" by another DVD brand) has all the same extra footage (interviews, photos, rehersals) but on a single DVD. Thus, to save DVD space to accomodate everything, the stereo track is a compressed Dolby Digital track (not a good thing, all things Dolby are not great). On this version, the extras are moved to a second DVD, and the concert has an uncompressed LPCM soundtrack. I know because I have both versions and this one sounds noticeably better. The single DVD version does come with a cd of the same concert. But this 2-DVD version is the one with the best audio!

But it is the great music why you should buy this!

5A good timeNov 01, 2006

I've been a fan of Poco since the early 70's when the radio was playing the Fools gold/c'mon/Rocky Mountain breakdown medley. By then they were an established band with several albums. If you are a Poco fan you should not be disappointed by this DVD. Rusty, Paul, and George are joined by founding member Richie Furay. The production values are first rate with great audio and video. The songs chosen are mostly from the earlier years, but that was fine with me since that was my favorite period, although I would have liked to hear a few from the blue & grey album which was not represented at all. Rusty's voice sounded a little strained at some points but not enough to make a difference, even strained his vocals are better than most (I don't hear as well as I used to either, so it may have been me). If anything Paul's voice is better than I remember and I remember it as very good. Richie Furay was a pleasant surprise, as I was not expecting to see him. Poco fans should be very happy with their purchase.

5As good as it get after so many years.Nov 04, 2006

The group Poco (add Richy Furay founder-retired) is live and at thier best. The only way I would say it could change not better just different, would have been to add Jim Messina and Timothy B. Schmidt. That I would pay a lot to see and have. Rusty Young and company have a great act and should continue for more years to come.

5Poco At it;s Best in ConcertSep 23, 2007
By Richard Frost "R. Frost"
I saw Poco live, earlier this year. There were only four of them. Geroge was not with the lineup. This is
one ofthe last concerts featuring Rusty, Paul, George and Jack. You get the bonus of Richie Furay.
These five guys gave a performance of a lifefiime. I have been a Poco fan for 37 years.
This is a great DVD. Do not purchase Keeping the Legend Alive. Both DVDs filmed the same performance.
Better quality, picture, outstanding sound, better mix along with much imporved
photography. Great DVD from one of the pioneers of country rock. If there had been
no Poco, there would have been no Eagles, Diamond Rio, Restless Heart, Alabama, Lonestar, etc.
Thanks to Poco for giving us the great gift of country rock on DVD.

4nice legacySep 13, 2009
By IJEFF
The real attraction for me was the inclusion of Richie Furay in this concert DVD. Without him, this would have been disappointing and somewhat less than a true legacy. It sure would have been nice if Jim Messina had participated, but thats just a minor complaint.

Its amazing when you consider what Paul Cotton and Rusty Young were able to accomplish with this band after co-founders left (Richie and Jim) and Timothy Schmit. But, Rusty is and always will be best utilized as an ace sideman/songwriter. He did indeed find his voice when called upon, but its also easy to understand why he wasn't utilized as a vocalist in the early years when they had an abundance of great singers in Cotton, Furay and Schmit. Rusty also proved to be a great songwriter having penned many of their best songs.

Still, for me the concert comes alive with Richie. Though long semi-retired he may be, he still delivers the goods in an amazing voice unaffected by age. For further evidence, check out his recent solo cd, "The Heartbeat of Love". Paul Cotton still sounds and plays very good. One could say his songwriting had a lot to do with Poco's longevity and especially their later day success in the late 70's. His stage presence is indeed subdued, but having seem them many years ago, I believe it is more his personality and not any change with age. Overall, I'd say Cotton proved to be an improvement over Jim Messina despite Messina's subsequent success with Kenny Loggins.

All in all, this concert is a nice document of Poco. Could it have been better if recorded a decade or so earlier? Probably. As a legacy, it misses other key members from years past, but this is probably as good as it will get.

PS: I've always preferred Poco over the Eagles. Look at it this way. You get great country rock singing and playing without the pretentious Don Henley sermons.
