Guitar Heaven!Aug 11, 2005
By Harold J. Sharon I'm a guitar player of sorts and have been a blues fan for years. ....and have just recently discovered Gary Moore! This DVD is a must have for blues fans and guitarists alike. How good is it? Let me just say that when I first watched this, I thought I had died and gone to guitar heaven!
There are many different opinions as to what a "great" guitarist is. I don't know about anyone else, or who gets to say who the "best" is (if there can be such a thing today), but Gary Moore just has to be in the top ten! Why?
It's his tone! The sounds he pulls from that Les Paul! His blues phrasing is excellent and refreshing. Incredible note bending and sustain. His version of The Stumble is a masterful demonstration of blues phrasing and a great tribute to Peter Green and of course, Freddy King! Yes, there are the various King influences, but.. .his way of interlacing his phrases with the most searing blues guitar sound that I've ever heard is nothing short of amazing. Still Got The Blues For You is perhaps one of the best blues songs ever written! This whole DVD is blues/rock at it's best.
If Gary had not gone into blues, he would have always been a great rock guitarist. What sets him apart (and above) the rest of the great rock guitar players is his ability to grind out the blues. Not everyone can play blues like this. You have to FEEL it--not play it! And boy, does Gary show you how he feels!
He draws every ounce of emotion from every single note he plays...especially on "The Return of The Messiah"-- I think Gary Moore has done something very few top rock guitarists can do---create a new sounding blues form with a hard rock edge to it..tough to do with so many "blues" artists around!
Get this DVD! It will rock your socks off! It's great and so very cheap(it's actually a steal at this pice)...and the delivery service was fast & hassle free...ordered it on Thursday..at my door the next week on Friday!

Good audio and video , committed performanceOct 27, 2005
By A C SHIELDS Gary came out of the shadows for a lot of listeners with his blues albums . The roots of rock can be found in this music and Gary wrote a classic blues tune of his own as well - Still Got the Blues . It was like he had been given a second chance - he certainly grabbed it with both hands , as he does on this recorded evidence .
He has a good band here and plays very well .
The direction is solid and shows all the players to good effect .
If you are a fan of blues or rock guitar played with a lot of passion , then this disc is an essential purchase .

MOORE IS A MONSTER....Explosive Guitar Playing!Jun 18, 2006
By Ronnie Milsap

Blues-Rock guitar players rarely come any better than the criminally underappreciated Gary Moore. If you love hot guitar playing and have never heard this man before, this is the DVD you need in your collection right away!
In this dynamic 1990 performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival, we see Gary Moore taking his place alongside Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, and Eddie Van Halen as one of the most POWERFUL guitarists in the world of rock and blues! It is a shame that a guitarist of this calibre is only marginally known here in America. The electrifying solos that dominate this performance show that Gary could easily blow most guitar players right off the stage!
This show captures Moore in his prime, right at the point when he switched his style from heavy metal to blues-rock. Most of the songs here are from his excellent 1990 album Still Got the Blues. One of the highlights of the show is a hot performance of "Texas Strut" where Gary pays tribute to Stevie Ray and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top with some nice impersonations of Gibbons and Vaughan.
Another highlight is the special guest appearance by blues legend Albert "Ice Man" Collins who delivers a fine version of the beautiful blues masterpiece "Cold Cold Feeling". Albert sticks around for several more songs too. Gary delights the audience with three encores and finally ends the show with the haunting and searing guitar instrumental "The Messiah will come again". If you care anything about electrifying guitar solos or powerhouse blues-rock music, buy a copy of this sucker and turn it up!

Perhaps the ultimate Gary Moore DVDDec 05, 2004
By dknight16 Yes. It's that good. The sound, the visuals, the authoring and editing - this one hits on all cylinders. The Still Got The Blues tour was perhaps the high point of Gary's amazing musical journey and this particular shows is one of the highest points of that year. The Montreux camera and audio crew captured an amazing performance. At times the crowd seem positively hysterical. They know something special is going on in front of their eyes.
I thought the Evening Of The Blues (Hammersmith Odeon) laserdisc was going to be the ultimate Gary Moore video performance, but this show has better sound and, believe it or not, better picture quality. It sounds full and live without the prominent hall echo effect captured on the Hammersmith show. If you have seen the Live Blues laserdisc you know that the sound on that nightclub show is slightly dry without the natural reverb of a larger venue. It seems Montreux is just the right size to capture perfect concert sound.
The performance itself just barely short of perfect. I only say that because the song Midnight Blues from the Hammersmith show cannot possibly be topped. All of the songs here are great, but a few completely stand out and must be heard (and seen) by every fan of Gary Moore and the blues. Texas Strut is an extended version and Gary seems to get in a special zone. Perhaps he is feeding off the crowd, or maybe he was just inspired that night. He samples guitar licks of Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) and Stevie Ray Vaughan during the early part of the song and to my ears his ability alter styles and sounds on one guitar is cool as hell. Then he goes into the improvised blues portion and takes the song to heights I have never heard him go before. The Albert Collins guest performances on 3 songs is always a treat, but I especially enjoyed Cold, Cold Feeling. On this cut Albert proves why he is considered a master of the blues and Gary just sits somewhat in the background and lets the man show how it is done. But by far the most amazing cut is the encore performance of The Messiah Will Come Again. This is a beautiful guitar instrumental and Gary just NAILS it. Soft, haunting, energetic, and sheer virtuostic (I made up a word) in different parts of the song. Perhaps the best performance I have ever seen from any guitarist ever. It will give you both goose bumps and a dry mouth (because it will be hanging open). Simply unbelievable.
Then they give you 3 bonus cuts from the 1997 Montreux show. The sound and the feel is very different 7 years later (and with a completely different band). The cool part of the bonus tracks it that you get 3 pre-blues era tracks from Gary and they sound great. If you have seen the Ohne Filter broadcast from the same tour you will notice that Gary has the same yellow Diesel shirt on. I guess he really thought it looked good on camera!

The Messiah Will Come Again is well worth the price alone. I have been a Gary Moore fan since the late 70's and prefer his pre blues, but this dvd is smoking. His chops, tone, and overall performance is superb. If I thought there was such a thing as 5 stars. I would give this 5. This is a must for all Gary Moore fans. Gary Moore in his prime. Well recorded and shot. This rivals Emerald Isles 1984 and Stockholm 1987. This is a great dvd
