 We Need Moore DVD's Like ThisJan 20, 2005

I have enjoyed the music of Gary Moore for several years, but being in the States he seldom makes his way over here. Since this was the case, I was glad to see the release of a DVD filmed at this years "Monsters Of Rock" tour. This piece was filmed as part of Gary touring for his "Scars" album. Joining him in the band is Cass Lewis on bass, and Darrin Mahoney on drums. Fans might be interested in the fact that Gary seems to have stepped back into his roots of Rock once again. He took some time off and became a blues man (and while it was done quite well), I still like to see him kicking some serious ass on the strings. He has not lost any of his skill at this medium.
This DVD is essentially a straight ahead concert from beginning to end. The only additional footage is several minutes of sound-check and some backstage interview footage. These two portions serve as the Bonus Features, making that aspect somewhat lacking. Given the scope of Gary Moore's back catalog, Sanctuary should have included a couple of videos, or perhaps even some vintage footage from other "Monsters Of Rock" festivals. Gary Moore has been a steady performer at this festival, so the footage has to be out there and this is what fans will want to see.
The DVD moves quite quickly also. I found this not only because of its 63 minute length but because the songs flow so smoothly. It was over before I knew it, so I let it run again to just listen to the songs. I am guessing the shortness of its length was because Gary was on the opening spot during this tour for Whitesnake. 63 minutes seems like a normal running time for a pre-headliner goes onstage. The songs are listed below for the reader, I was surprised to see two of my favorites excluded ("I'm Always Gonna Love You", and "Victims Of The Future".

While I have the aforementioned criticisms I did enjoy this DVD quite a bit. As a matter of fact, I say all fans should go out and grab this since it is like being at the show. Be sure to look at Gary Moore's Official Website for more details on what he is up to and what is being released.

Moore Shreds Right Before Your EyesSep 19, 2004

If you appreciate Gary Moore for what he is...arguably one of rock's best electric guitarists, you will thoroughly enjoy this dvd. Moore's playing has few peers and it shows on this release. The sound is great and so is the camera work. The version of Phil Lynott's "Don't Believe a Word" is worth the price of this dvd alone. The only reason I did not rate this at 5 stars is the length. Yes the original concert only ran a little over a hour; but for a medium that can hold 4 hours of material, some interviews, backstage footage or bonus stuff would have been nice.
Chances are if you a dedicated Gary Moore fan you already own this, if you don't just get it. For any casual or newcomer to Moore's work, you need to see him live to appreciate just how talented he really is. Add to cart now, you won't regret it.

Where to start, Well the playing is excellent but the vocals are horrible. Other than the new songs from his then current disc he forces all of the vocals on this. I was glad to see the older tunes on this release but could of done with out the harsh vocals. I was also not very happy with the length on this DVD. Oh well I'm waiting for the Gary Moore:Live at Montreux 1990 DVD I know that one will be better. Being a fan for over 25 years I can't say to the casual listener to buy this this is for hardcore fans only.

I must start by saying that this is biased since I love Gary's guitar sound. Gary plays with such passion and ferocity that you can't help but be glued to the screen watching his fingers run on the fretboard. The vocals are not the best ever at the beginning, but as the show progresses they do improve. The sound quality and picture quality are awesome. This is my first exposure to Gary Moore in a visual medium and the fretboard fireworks were all I had imagined. Breathtaking.

Over 50 years old and still an amazing hardrock guitarist, who would have thought so? His melodic soloing is quite exceptional by anyone's standards, including people like Dave Gilmour and Jeff Beck. This DVD serves as an excellent showcase of his chops and will hopefully inspire a new generation of rock guitarists. As a singer and song writer, Gary Moore has never impressed me. Even though the new material from the latest studio release "Scars" does sound relatively fresh, it is not surprisingly the old Phil Lynott classic "Don't believe a word" that provides the highlight of the concert.
